Early Intervention Specialist

SouthSide Early Childhood Center is seeking a passionate and experienced Early Intervention Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in supporting the developmental needs of children and their families by coordinating and collaborating with staff and teachers. The Early Intervention Specialist will provide direct support for children ages 2-5 as well as serve as a consultant to teachers on early childhood intervention strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains SouthSide’s Early Intervention Services for 2 year-old and preschool program goals. Monitors program quality feedback from parents and teaching staff and incorporates necessary design and revision changes.

  • Provides follow-up assessment, referral, or intervention as necessary per results from social-emotional screenings.

  • Interventions include modeling in classroom, working one on one with children.

  • Carries case load of up to 10 children at a time.

  • Monitors case load outcomes via Conscious Discipline rubric, ATL-REG and SEL categories of DRDP, and ASQ-SE.

  • Assists teaching staff in and out of the classroom on Conscious Discipline techniques and supports.

  • Sets goals and follow up for classroom teachers based on the results of the Conscious Discipline Rubrics-that are completed quarterly.

  • Communicates observation, progress and goals with parents/guardians, in conjunction with the Classroom Teacher.

  • Organizes and implements Conscious Discipline or other group or individual training as needed.

  • Assists Early Intervention Coordinator, Mental Health Coordinator, Program Director, and teaching staff to assess and develop behavior plans for children with behavioral and social-emotional challenges and recommendations for referrals.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary Care Team to address needs of children on case load as well as any other 2 year-old and Pre-K needs that arise.

  • Collaborates with Development Director to report grant outcomes.

  • Supports the 2 year-old and Pre-K classrooms outside of interventions as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Classroom teaching experience with children with special needs, preferably in an early childhood setting with a diverse population.

  • Strong understanding of child development across all domains.

  • Experience identifying and intervening with children experiencing developmental delays and/or behavioral concerns.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

  • Familiarity with Conscious Discipline preferred.

  • Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring peers is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Full-Time Pre-K Classroom Floater

SouthSide Early Childhood Center is currently seeking a full-time pre-k classroom floater. We are looking for motivated individuals who are passionate about early childhood education, and want to be part of an innovative program. We are seeking diverse candidates, and/or candidates who are bilingual English/Spanish, English/Oromo, English/Amharic, English/Somali. We are a year-round program. Position hours range from 9:00 am- 5:45 pm. Candidates must have or be working toward 6 college credit hours in early childhood or a related field. These are full-time, salaried position with benefits.

part-time Classroom Floater + extended day teachers

SouthSide Early Childhood Center is currently seeking part-time classroom floaters and extended day teachers for various hours throughout the day. We are looking for motivated individuals who are passionate about early childhood education, and want to be part of an innovative program. We are a year-round program. Position hours range from 7:30 am- 5:45 pm with a max of 30 hours per week, benefits not included. Candidates must have or be working toward 6 college credit hours in early childhood or a related field. Pay is $15/hr.

Key Responsibilities (All teaching/floater positions):

  • Engage actively with children to ensure their safety, well-being, and learning.

  • Instruct and supervise children in classroom activities and daily routines.

  • Implement age-appropriate activities that support developmental goals and learning outcomes.

  • Utilize the Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline, and Anti-Bias Education frameworks in daily interactions and classroom management.

  • Maintain consistent active supervision, positioning oneself to meet children's personal needs and ensure safety at all times.

  • Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships with children, families, and team members.

  • Participate actively in team meetings, committees, and family/community events.

  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom; sanitize surfaces, equipment, and materials regularly.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and a positive outlook each day.

  • Uphold ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities (Lead and Assistant Teachers):

  • Collaborate in lesson planning and implement daily classroom activities aligned with individual child goals.

Qualifications:

  • One of the following (depending on position):

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

    • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds CDA requirements.

    • Enrollment in a program leading to a degree or CDA credential to be completed within two years of hire.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.

  • Ability to pass an extensive background check and be fingerprinted.

Professional Requirements:

  • Completion of at least 18 clock hours of early childhood education training annually.

  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Frequent climbing, walking, bending, stretching, and sitting on the floor with children.

  • Willingness to work in environments with exposure to childhood illnesses and varying weather conditions.
